Vitra: Organic Chair - 1940 - Meeting Chair
The Organic Chair, a cozy reading chair, originated in 1940 as an entry for the New York MoMA's "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" competition. While it was conceptually advanced for its time, limitations in manufacturing methods prevented it from mass production. It wasn't until the 1950s that advancements in production allowed for the mass manufacturing of organically shaped seat shells. Notable examples include Eames' iconic Plastic Armchair and Saarinen's renowned Tulip Chair.
