Isamu Noguchi's 1AG Akari Light Sculpture for Vitra
Isamu Noguchi, an American/Japanese artist and designer, began designing the Akari Light Sculptures in 1951, a set of over ten hand-crafted Shoji-paper models for table lights, regular lamps, and ceiling luminaires. He chose the word "akari" for the name of this lighting series, which is a Japanese term for brightness and illumination, as well as lightness.
